"Stereodreamscene"
"I want this," vocalist/guitarist Chris Gordon repeatedly contends with great angst during "Christine", the fourth track on his band's Stereodreamscene. Given the fervor in his voice and the slamming rock wallop of the song, we're willing to accept that he indeed does want it, and the rest of the album convinces us of it. The Scottish quartet's hard-hitting pop is craft-ed with care, passion, and a vision that seems to be focused on the brass ring of rock stardom. While Gordon skillfully unleashes growls and coos, there are truly lovely musical moments on this debut, like the string arrangements that add poignancy to "Conversation" and the melodramatic "Wasted At Your Wing," or the slightly futuristic dressing provided by outer-spacey keyboards on "Remain This Way."
